Bridging the Gap with Dr. G Season 1: Autoimmunity, Cardiovascular Health & Wellness Welcome to the Journey:
Connecting the Dots Between Autoimmunity and Heart Health "Helping women move from "What's wrong with me?" to "Now I understand."
If you've found your way here, welcome.
Perhaps you've been living with an autoimmune disease and wondering why you still don't feel like yourself. Maybe you've experienced unexplained fatigue, palpitations, chest discomfort, dizziness, shortness of breath, or brain fog—only to be told your heart tests were "normal." If so, you're not alone.
As a cardiologist, I've cared for countless women whose symptoms could not be explained by traditional cardiovascular risk factors alone. Over the years, I've come to appreciate that chronic inflammation, immune system dysfunction, hormonal changes, nutrition, stress, sleep, and lifestyle all influence cardiovascular health in ways we are only beginning to fully understand. Too often, healthcare addresses symptoms one at a time while missing the connections between them. This blog was created to help bridge those connections.
Each week, we'll explore the relationship between autoimmune disease, chronic inflammation, cardiovascular health, and whole-person wellness through an evidence-informed, compassionate lens. Together, we'll discuss emerging research, practical lifestyle strategies, laboratory insights, nutrition, movement, stress management, and the questions every woman should feel empowered to ask about her health. My goal isn't simply to provide information. It's to help you understand your body. Knowledge replaces fear with confidence. Understanding leads to better conversations with your healthcare team. And recognizing early warning signs may allow intervention before more serious cardiovascular disease develops. Whether you're living with lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjögren's syndrome, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, psoriatic arthritis, multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, or another autoimmune condition, this community was created with you in mind. You deserve to be heard. You deserve answers. Most importantly, you deserve a partner who believes your symptoms matter. I'm honored you've joined me. Together, we'll bridge the gap between symptoms and science, uncertainty and understanding, and ultimately, illness and wellness.
Key Takeaway: Autoimmune diseases affect far more than the immune system. Understanding their relationship with cardiovascular health is one of the most important steps toward prevention, early recognition, and lifelong wellness.
Bridge Builder Challenge Take five minutes this week to write down any cardiovascular symptoms you've experienced over the past six months—even those you've dismissed as unrelated. Bring that list to your next healthcare appointment and start a conversation.
Next Week Why Women with Autoimmune Disease Face a Higher Risk of Heart Disease—and What Every Woman Should Know.
